How to pay into your current account

You can pay into your current account at a Nationwide branch, by bank transfer, by using a cash machine found inside or directly outside of a Nationwide branch, or by post with cheques.

In branch

You can pay in any amount over the counter with your current account card or with identification like your passport or driving licence.

You can also pay in coins or cash, but please check our page before you visit to find out what we can accept.

Note:

If another person wants to pay you, they’ll need to make a transfer from their own account using your name, sort code and account number.

From another account

Anyone — including you — can pay into your current account using an account with another building society or a bank. The sender will need:

  • your name

  • your sort code

  • your account number

You can find your sort code and account number on:

  • the front of your Nationwide card
  • the top of your current account statement
  • the Banking app, under your current account's name
  • the Internet Bank, under your current account's name
  • each cheque in your chequebook.

At a cash machine

Insert the current account card you want to pay into at a Nationwide branch’s cash machine, then choose the option to make a deposit.

Self-serve cash machine in branch

You can feed your cash and cheques into these machines.

  • Cash limit: the maximum you can pay in each day is £2,500. You cannot deposit more than 90 notes per day.
  • Cheque limit: the maximum for a single cheque is £2,000, with a daily limit of £50,000.

You’re given an envelope from the cash machine to put your cash and cheques into, which you then feed back into the machine.

  • Cash limit: any amount, but you can only deposit up to 30 notes at a time.
  • Cheque limit: up to £2,000 per day.

By post

Note:

For security reasons, we recommend you don't send cash through the post.
